Volvo VIDA how to crack:

A couple of weeks ago the car suffered a spurious DIM fault which left me with a SRS alarm standing. Unsure of what faults may be laying in wait and in order to clear the SRS alarm, I ordered a VIDA/DICE unit from EBAY.

I know that VIDA/DICE is a big issue on the forum and has been covered many times, but I wanted to put down my experience while it is still fresh in my mind, and that it may help any out there who are struggling or are wondering whether to get a unit or not.

Once I got the VIDA/DICE unit I set about looking at the numerous posts that had been put on various forums, and I realised immediately that this was not going to be as easy as most software / hardware you buy off the shelves. However. my first challenge was to find a laptop with Win 7 professional on it. Luckily my son had a large desktop / laptop with it on and he let me do a fresh install and update. I then followed a YOUTUBE video for installation. (No instructions came with the device at all).

Following along, I got VIDA 2014D installed OK. I then rushed out to my car to try it out. When I plugged the DICE into the computer it searched for the drivers and eventually recognized the device. I then started VIDA, but it would not see the DICE unit. Just a box with a Red X in it.

OK so back to the forums to see what people did about that. I must have tried innumerable combinations of things and I was about to give up. As a last ditch effort I dug out an old Toshiba Laptop I had. This only had Vista Home Premium on it, but it was a 250GB drive, 4GB of RAM and an Intel Core DUO processor (P8600) which was way below the spec of my sons laptop, but adequate for VIDA. I searched on the WEB for the cheapest WIN 7 professional license I could buy and got one from Software GEEKS for £19.

I loaded the 32 BIT version as this is all the laptop could cope with. Followed some of the tips I had picked up on the forums, and loaded VIDA back up again. I went out this morning in the pouring rain to try and connect it to the car – hey presto – it worked. I have checked and cleared down the faults, including the SRS alarm. I am a very happy man. So below is the setup I used which worked for me and I hope it helps someone else out there who has been struggling.

1. I purchased a VIDA / DICE unit with the latest 2014D software. The VIDA unit has multicoloured lights on it. I had read on the forums that there were some out there with only Blue Lights and seemed to give problems.
2. Use WIN 7 professional 32 Bit and let windows do a full update (takes ages). You will certainly need to ensure that service pack 1 is installed. When mine was loaded and updated, it only had Internet Explorer 8 on it. I had to download and install IE9. VIDA 2014D would not load with only IE8 in place.
3. Download the latest version of JAVA
4. At this point I created a restore point in windows, so I could revert to this point should I have problems installing VIDA.
5. I then turned off User Account Control (UAC) and disabled the Windows Firewall.
6. Check that the only version of .net that you have is .NET 3.5. I had read that if you are on version 4 VIDA doesn’t like it. (You can check the version in the registry editor in Windows)

Once VIDA was proven to work, I then took the laptop out to the car and connected the DICE unit to the OBD2 socket and plugged it into the laptop. Windows searched for the drivers and installed them. When I opened VIDA up, I needed to enter all the car details in the Vehicle Profile section. This time the page also showed my DICE unit in the DICE configuration Box. With the vehicle details entered, the Diagnostics TAB activated and as long as the Ignition is in the II position, it will read all the onboard computers.
Why didn’t this work for me the first time I tried it? I think it might be that VIDA / DICE didn’t like the 64Bit version of Win7 Pro, although others may have got it working on that platform. I also think I got in a mess with the .net 3.5 vs the .net 4.5.

My thanks to all those on various Forums who have posted up their solutions. Most are for earlier versions of VIDA, and I didn’t see many for the 2014D version that I bought.

It has been a long week messing around with this, but I am currently walking on air.

One final tip – while messing around with VIDA on the car the ignition is on. I would put the battery charger on while in this state as the battery soon runs down. I’m currently waiting for it to charge up so I can start the car!!!

Volvo VIDA Dice 2014D VMware Image Free Download

Thanks to roxanaschram who shares VIDA Dice 2014D VM image download link with all fellows on the web.

I use a 4K display so you MIGHT need to change the resolution on first boot with your machine to adjust to size if you are not using a 4K equivalent. When logging in, use ‘admin’ or ‘1’. Enjoy!

I’ve built a new ISO for those that want to directly install on their systems with the updates and my redesigned interface already applied. VIDA 2014A Virtual Machine Setup:

Download the virtual machine 7zip image
Download VMWare Player or VMWare Fusion. This will depend on which OS you have running.
If you have Windows but don’t have 7zip. Download it. I believe most Linux distros support 7z files out of the box or can be easily installed via the Software Centre. If you are on Mac OS, you can use ‘The Unarchiver’ available via the App Store.
Once you have everything downloaded, install your hypervisor of choice. This would be VMWare Player or Fusion. Advanced users can use virtual box with minor modifications I believe.
Extract the 7z image file you downloaded to a contained folder. The password is V0lv02RuleYou can run it from this location or move it to another location. Doesn’t matter.
Locate the file ‘Service Machine.vmx’ and double click on this file. It will open your hypervisor. You may be asked if you copied or moved this. Just click moved.
If you want to adjust the VM image settings now if the time to do so. Things like number of cores dedicated to the VM and how much RAM you want it to be allowed to use.
Make sure you set the USB setting up to match your machine. If you plug the DICE into a USB 2.0 port it needs to be USB 2.0. If you use a USB 3.0 port, it needs to be set to USB 3.0
Run it and enjoy.

USB Image Setup: (For more advanced users)

Download the image from the builds folder
Download the USB Imaging Tool.zipfile from tools folder
If you have Windows but don’t have 7zip. Download it. I believe most Linux distros support 7z files out of the box or can be easily installed via the Software Centre. If you are on Mac OS, you can use ‘The Unarchiver’ available via the App Store.
Once you have everything downloaded, extract the USB Imaging Tool.
Run the tool. Select your USB drive from the list on the left. Click Restore. A window will open to locate the IMZ file. In the bottom right is a drop down menu, change it to ‘Compressed (zip) image files’. Locate the folder where you downloaded to and select the IMZ file. Click yes to restore and overwrite the USB drive.
Run it and enjoy.

Q: My system specs are… Which one should I run.
A: Which ever one you want, system specs are based on the one you choose to run. Virtual Machine is the easiest to get up and running and requires the least amount of effort from you.

Q: Are the system requirements actually what’s required to run?
A: Yes and No. For the virtual machine no. You could have less RAM and a slower processor and it will still run. For the USB images, yes without more modification of the images.

Q: Unable to open the file Service Machine.7z
A: Download 7-Zip from the link above AND make sure you have the password

Q: How do I log in?
A: Use ‘admin’ and press enter. You can also use 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.

Q: How do I go about checked the MD5 or SHA256 to ensure I have downloaded without error?
A: I recommend Quickhash-GUI. If you have a Mac or run Linux, they both have md5sum built in but require CLI knowledge so I won’t recommend it.

Q: I have logged in, my DiCE unit is detected but I can’t click on diagnosis tab. Did I do something wrong?
A: Most likely, you have not selected all the options for the vehicle profile.

Q: Does the VMWare image support 32bit?
A: NO! But the USB edition does

Q: I’m on a Mac and can’t find VMWare Player for it, what do I use?
A: You’ll need to obtain a copy of VMWare Fusion

Q: Will there be a VirtualBox version?
A: It is very likely just to help out the Mac users…

Q: What are the system requirements?
A: System requirements are for the VMWare image is a 64bit dual-core processor and 4GB RAM. Please know that with 4GB of RAM, you will be moving SLOWLY. I recommend at least 6Gb RAM. If you only meet the minimum requirements, try directly installing.

Q: I have 7-zip and it is giving me errors extracting the files. What is going on?
A: Double check that the download completed correctly. You can do this using the MD5 Hash posted above.

Q: Why doesn’t the VMware Image detect my DiCE unit?
A: The VMware Image may be configured for different USB specifications than the port you are trying to use. If you have a system with USB 3.x, you need to make sure the ‘Machine Settings’ reflect a USB 3.x bus. Same with USB 2.0. Depending on the build of the VM depends on which USB port revision was set to. Drivers have already be install for the Intel buses.

Q: I’ve installed an update or patch but nothing happened?
A: Try rebooting, if that didn’t work, make sure you used the right one. If it still doesn’t work, ask for help.

Q: I have a 32GB USB flash drive but it won’t fit. What do I do?
A: While in the USB Flash Tool, click on the options tab. Select the option to truncate the image.

Q: I would like to print but it doesn’t see my printer?
A: Turns out VMWare printer support blocks VIDA from running when you have their driver installed. To get around this, share your printer to the network so that the VM will see it as a network printer and then you can print to it.

Volvo VIDA 2014D Windows XP

I’ve happily be using VIDA on my old Win XP laptop for a few years

I have an old laptop (currently with Vista) and an old ASUS notebook running XP SP3.

VIDA 2012, 2013A or D version software should be installed on Win XP or Virtual machine. But 2014A and new 2014D requires Win 7 O/S ONLY. that’s a huge development for VIDA DiCE kit. Leave alone WIN xp or VirtualBox

I also run my VIDA in a XP virtual machine. No issues with mouse or USB, if you are familiar with VMware.

Volvo 2014D VIDA Windows 7

I just went back to a Win7 machine running IE9 and I’m very careful with the updates. 2014D is supposed to work with IE10 but it didn’t when I tried it.

While it says it works with ALL versions of Windows…it doesn’t actually.

However, it does have a GREAT setup instruction PDF that truly made setting up a VM super easy using Win7 Pro. Which then made setting up VIDA a breeze. I have it up and running and I even managed to connect to my older DICE unit.

I’’m on 2014d and W7 pro

I’m lucky in that I had an old laptop lying around that I could use solely for VIDA / DICE. Once I finally got it working (Win Pro 7 32 Bit, .Net 3.5), I turned off windows update, so that its configuration wouldn’t change. I assume that as long as I don’t change my car for a newer one, there is no benefit to an upgraded VIDA version (I’m on 2014D), or any further windows updates.

I used 32bit Win7 Ultimate. It all works now.

My only issue is my car battery running out being left on pos II for a length of time!

it must be Win 7 Pro ( or ultimate).

It won’t work on 7 Home

Vida 2014d will work fine with a fully updated Windows 7 Pro

On any 32-bit Windows machine, RAM in excess of 3 GB will be unrecognized by the OS

I have VIDA 2010D on Windows 7 Home Premium.

IE 8 and install on Win7.

VADIS on Win7 x64 with IE8 works like a charm

I run VIDA 2010D on Windows 7 professional 32-bit with Chrome Version 23.0.1271.97 – No problems

Good to know: Windows 7 32 bit is the only operation system that tested by real pros:

2014D VIDA DiCE Windows 8

I had it working with Windows 8.1 until an unknown update broke connectivity to DICE and no amount of system restore would bring it back. I guess 2014D works ok, but be aware an update may blow it up in the future.

DiCE was working with Vida2014B and Windows 8.1, but stopped working when I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday.

Need to uninstall the IE existed on the system, (probably IE9) first, then it should be able to install Win 8.

win8 & ie10 sure don’t play well with anything, can’t downgrade in win8 either, that’s what that compatibility mode is for.

Volvo VIDA 2014D Windows 10

Win10 with Vida 2014D and DiCE is now working. And I have connected to a separate ME9 and read some data from it.

Windows 10 is causing tons of compatibility issues across the board. You may have to VM until updates.

I have been using 2014D VIDA on my win10 tablet for few months and it even works via integrated Bluetooth!!!

Volvo VIDA 2014D Windows Mac

I run mine on a Mac using WinXP + VirtualBox VM without any problems. But UI is a little clunkier with a VM.

I have an old Win XP Dell that I use exclusively as a VIDA/DiCE box and I use VMWare Fusion/Win7 VM on a Mac for a VIDA reference source.

I have XP pro on my Macbook Pro in VirtualBox and that is working fine.

Here i would describe details of the system, HD size, Ram amount, processor type, you’ll need to be running in XP virtual nachine, provided you have the size described above plus IE8, you may want to disable your firewall and antivirus during installation. at least 2GB of ram, more than 20GB hard disk, preferably 40GB + , I don’t remember the processor type but mine is pentium 4 quore duo works ok, IE8 when you have those, your installation will be okay.

VM Ware player is compatible with Win XP, Vista 32 & 64 bit as well as Win7 32 & 64 bit

I have it running on my main PC and it works!

Dice VIDA Software Programs Volvo S60 CEM: Done!

Success! You have good luck to program Volvo S60 the year 2002 using VOLVO VIDA software.

After replacement of a failed CEM (central electronics module) on a 2002 Volvo S60, the software needs to be downloaded to the vehicle. This is done through Volvo VIDA software: http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/2014d-vida-dice-diagnostic-tool-for-volvo.html

You need to buy a subscription from Volvo to gain access to the software files that you need to download, and then reload to the new DIM.

You need to be online. When you get a subscription, you gain access to VIDA 2014D but you still need to purchase and download the specific software you are re-loading, in this case, the CEM. It is a very time consuming process, especially if this is the first time you are programming. Lots of reading in their site. Hope this helps.

How to install Volvo VIDA DiCE 2014D 2 Software CDs

Volvo VIDA DiCE diagnostic scanner new package comes with 2 software DVDs/CDs (old package comes with 1 software CD only). Setting up 2 software CDs is different from 1 CD.

Note: If you have only 1 software CD, follow instruction here to install VIDA 2014D.

How to install Volvo VIDA 2014D with 2 Software CDs on Windows 7 64 bit?

Volvo Vida Dice Requirement on computer:

1. It must be Windows 7 professional operating system
2. It need to be Internet Explorer 9 !!!
3. Computer memory needs to over 3GRAM
4. C:// must have 40GB space
5. Software must be installed under C://
6. It must be NTFS format

Step 1: Install VIDA Setup

Launch Windows Internet Explorer 9

Click on Setup->About Internet Explorer

Delete IE9 Windows 7 x86 enu shortcut on desktop

Open VIDA2014.1 software CD

Copy VIDA2014D.part1 and paste it to Computer/Software (D:)

Open VIDA2014D.2 software CD

Copy VIDA2014D.part2 and paste it to Computer/Disk D

Then extra VIDA2014D.part1 zip file

Open VIDA2014D.part1 folder

Copy and paste Patch VIDA 2014-A-B-C-D to desktop

Open Software (D:)/VIDA2014D folder->Install->DVD->Vida_dvdheader->Main

Run Setup as Administrator

Install VIDA setup

Select VIDA All-in-one, press Next

Select software language

Choose destination location C://VIDA/, press Next

Accept license agreement,press Next

Installing Framework35

VIDA installation in progress. Wait until the installation is completed

Installation complete will generate a few files on desktop

open Vida Configurator

Select connection type to central systems as "Internet" and Save

VIDA Setup finished, select restart computer later

Step 2: Install Patch VIDA 2014D

Extra Patch VIDA zip file and paste patch 2014A.exe on desktop

Install patch, select destination folder to C://,press Install

Connect Volvo DiCE interface with computer via USB port System will automatically install the driver DiCE-206751 @ 000000000000 device driver successfully installed

Allow windows firewall access

Delete Patch, Adobe Reader XI and 2014A.exe on desktop
